BMY Bristol-Myers Squibb Company
Bristol-Myers Squibb Company is the patent-cliff pharma the market has left for dead — and that mispricing is the thesis. The legacy franchise (Eliquis, Opdivo, Revlimid erosion) is exactly why it trades at a forward PE of ~9x and a 4.5% yield while still throwing off enormous cash: FY25 operating cash flow $14.16B (SEC XBRL). The bet is that the growth portfolio (Camzyos, Sotyktu, Cobenfy/KarXT, Reblozyl, the Opdivo subcutaneous franchise) plus the buyback covers the cliff better than a 9x multiple implies. You are paid to wait via the dividend and the repurchase pace.
Tape vs thesis: BMY closed $54.00 on 06-18 — a fresh low, -5.8% over the trailing month, on a 31.7M-share capitulation day (vs ~10M typical). Our cost is $56.40; the position is -4.3% / -7.9bps active since inception. That drawdown is the tape, not the thesis — nothing in the franchise or cash generation broke; the name simply got cheaper. At beta 0.24 it deepens the book's low-vol tilt, which is the right factor for Priya's frame (reals 2.23 cycle high, OAS 263, low-vol ON).
Why I'm not topping it today despite the cheaper price: BMY is beta ~0.26, so resizing it UP pushes book beta further below the 0.90 floor — the same structural wall every cash-flow name hits. It can only be added paired with a genuine high-beta quality unlock, and I have none I'll buy today (GS is at its 52w high; FDX prints 06-23). So: carry 2.34%, defended on conviction. Kill if FY26 OCF prints below $11B; stop -15% relative. Next print 2026-07-30. Conviction 4.
